Last four teams that will have a chance to fight for a place at DreamHack Winter 2014 were determined in tonight's second open qualifier, and they are myXMG, Planetkey Dynamics, AliGon and ALTERNATE. The first 12 teams in the 16-team European qualifier were known after yesterday's qualifier #1 and earlier today when the 8 invites were announced, so it only remained to see which four will join them from the second open qualifier. The first to do so were Danes myXMG, although in a revamped lineup that featured Michael "Friis" Jørgensen and Danni "smF" Dyg. Their road wasn't too difficult overall, but they did have a lot of trouble against Swedes highgrade in Round of 64 when they mounted a comeback to win 16-14 on de_dust2. Later on the deciding quarter-final match pitted them against one of France's four remaining ESWC hopefuls, iGamerz, and the Danes ran over them with a 16-5 scoreline on de_overpass.
Planetkey Dynamics were knocked out yesterday in Ro32 by a team that ended up being disqualified for cheating a round later, TBD, and they hid no feelings towards FACEIT admins for the way things turned out. This time they played with the youngster Alexander "alexRr" Frisch as a stand-in for Dimitrios "stavros" Smoilis, and they managed to go all the way with wins over teams such as eXes (3rd at Danish ESWC qualifier, albeit in somewhat different composition), French side Platinium and finally their countrymen MTW, whom they defeated 16-9 on de_inferno to clinch the spot.
Andreas "MODDII" Fridh, who yesterday played with his former fnatic teammate Friis in a mix-team DkZ and failed to make it through Infused in Ro16, today teamed up with Jerry "xelos" Råberg in AliGon. They defeated Serbian mix iNation 16-12, then Danish youngsters Gamersphere 16-11 and finally a Danish mix uN featuring former dignitas and CPH Wolves member René "cajunb" Borg 16-4. In the last quarter-final, DH Stockholm participants ALTERNATE met French team Katrina who had just won 16-14 over Marcus "Delpan" Larsson & co. Their de_nuke clash ended with the Germans overturning a 6-9 T side deficit to a 16-12 win and booking the final spot for Tuesday. Here are the last four qualified teams and their rosters:
Additionally, the admins stated that yesterday's supposed matches for seeds will not count and that the teams weren't told they had to play them. Therefore, there was no matches after the quarter-final today and all teams will have the same starting point at the Closed qualifier. Here are the 16 teams set to attempt to qualify for the $250,000 tournament at DreamHack Winter 2014:
The European Closed Qualifier will take place on October 21st-22nd with a single elimination bracket starting at 19:00 . The 4 teams that lose in the quarter-final will after battle for the 5th spot in a new bracket. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
